The Jefferson City Community will once again help Maureen Murphy bake cookies for sailors on the USS Murphy, which is going out to sea soon. The USS Michael Murphy (DDG-112) is named after her son, who is a Medal of Honor recipient, who was killed in action in Afghanistan during 2005. The ship was christened on May 7, 2011, on Michael P. Murphy's birthday, by his mother Maureen Murphy. The USS Murphy is a destroyer based out of Hawaii at the Joint Base Pearl Harbor-Hickam. The ship has 267 sailors and they love their sweets. Our goal is to bake a variety of cookies and place them in Ziploc bags and ship them for the sailors to help honor Michael Murphy and the current servicemen and women.
What to do: Please donate money to help pay for shipping cost.
Please write checks to: Blair Oaks
Also, gather with your friends and family to bake cookies to send to the sailors on the USS Michael Murphy. Place the cookies in Christmas Tins OR Ziploc Bags and bring them to Blair Oaks High School Office (or call the school office and we can have a student come out and grab your cookies!) on Thursday, December 11th. Any variety of cookies will be greatly appreciated!
